TheDementiaCare is a web application designed to support individuals with dementia and their family caregivers through cognitive tools, communication features, and progress tracking. We are based in Europe and operate in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant data protection laws.


2. What Data We Collect

We collect the following types of data:

a. User-Provided Data

During Account Creation:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Password (hashed)
  • User role (patient or family member)

From Patients:

  • Date of birth (optional)
  • Preferred language
  • Telegram connection status and chat ID

From Family Members:

  • Notes about the patient
  • Messages scheduled or sent via Telegram
  • Test invitations generated for patients

Test Data:

  • Memory and cognitive test results, scores, inputs, and timestamps

b. Automatically Collected Data (Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymized interaction data:

  • Page views and navigation behavior
  • Button clicks and feature usage
  • Sign-ins, test activity, language changes, and errors
  • Device and browser information
  • IP address (via GA4, anonymized where applicable)

c. Third-Party Integrations

We may share limited data with:

  • OpenAI: Daily notes (from family members) are used to generate “Daily Surprise” messages.
  • Telegram Bot API: Messages scheduled by family members are delivered to patients’ Telegram accounts.
  • Supabase: Our backend provider, which stores all application data securely and provides authentication services.
  • Google Analytics: Used solely for understanding aggregate user behavior and performance metrics.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data for the following purposes:

  • To provide and personalize our services
  • To store and display cognitive and memory test results
  • To deliver scheduled or instant messages via Telegram
  • To generate personalized “Daily Surprise” messages for patients
  • To analyze user engagement and improve the app’s performance
  • To maintain security and prevent misuse of the platform

4. How We Store and Secure Your Data

All personal and usage data is securely stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase. We use encryption, access controls, and other safeguards to protect your data.

Passwords are never stored in plain text. Communications between your browser and our servers are encrypted using HTTPS.


5. Data Retention

We retain personal data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You can request deletion at any time (see Section 7).

We are in the process of defining explicit retention periods for test results, scheduled messages, and user interactions. Until finalized, data will be retained by default unless a deletion request is received.


6. Sharing of Data

We do not sell or rent your personal data.

We share data only with:

  • OpenAI: To generate personalized messages based on daily notes.
  • Telegram: To send messages through their platform to the patient’s Telegram account.
  • Google Analytics: For anonymized analytics data.
  • Supabase: For secure hosting and authentication.

All third-party services comply with privacy and data protection regulations, including GDPR.


7. Your Rights (under GDPR and similar laws)

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or outdated data
  • Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Withdraw consent (where applicable)
  • Object to certain types of data processing
  • Request data portability (export of your data)

8. Children’s Privacy

TheDementiaCare is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16 without parental or guardian consent. Family members creating accounts for patients must ensure that legal and ethical guidelines for data handling are followed.

Your data may be processed and stored in countries outside of your country of residence. We ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place to protect your data.


10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page, and we will notify users by email or app notice when significant updates occur.
